Sophoras Pavilion is an architectural structure designed for Sophoras Park in Gistel. The park is characterized by its rich history and the diversity of its atmospheres and activities.
The pavilion is situated at the intersection of an orchard, forest, play zone, and community gardens, where it serves as a central point for gathering and encounter. It is conceived as a tectonic ensemble of distinct components, carefully balanced in both form and function.
A concrete portico anchors the structure to the ground, its rough materiality evoking the robust presence of the nearby wartime bunkers. A steel beam grid, cantilevering asymmetrically from the portico, offers a generous gesture of shelter. Finally, a truss system with a tension rod and counterweight stabilizes the composition, bringing structural and visual equilibrium. The result is a playfull structure that responds thoughtfully to its context and invites a variety of uses over time.
